Here it is! Part Deux. These are ten of my favorite ADAPTED screenplays, I repeat, ADAPTED. The Apartment, Chinatown and Parasite are all in Part 1, check it out here. Remember, these are my personal choices and the list is completely subjective. Here they are, in chronological order.

The Philadelphia Story (1940, dir. George Cukor), written by Donald Ogden Stewart, based on the play by Philip Barry. — We kick things off with the ultimate 1940s rom-com! Barry wrote the play specifically for Hepburn, because who ELSE could play the baddass, cold goddess, wife-to-be Tracy Lord juggling rich idiots before her wedding? It was a huge hit, she bought the rights to the film, starred in it with Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart, and voila! One of the most beloved films of its era. Ogden Stewart’s script wonderfully captured the spirit of the play and he ended up winning an Oscar for it.

Casablanca (1942, dir. Michael Curtiz), written by Howard Koch, Julius Epstein and Philip Epstein, based on the play Everybody Comes to Rick’s by Joan Allison and Murray Bennett. — Well, what can I possibly that hasn’t already been said about what is possibly the greatest film ever made? Casablanca’s script is simply perfect from start to finish.

All About Eve (1950, dir. Joseph L. Mankiewicz), written by Mankiewicz, based on the short story The Wisdom of Eve by Mary Orr. —…
