SHOWS YOU SHOULD BE WATCHING: Treason (2022)
I have been watching a lot of series lately, as per, and it’s been kind of hard to pick one to showcase; they’re either too popular, meaning that most people have seen them (Wednesday, Kaleidoscope, or, yes, the MH370 documentary), or just not that good. At least, not good enough to recommend.
So I’ve trying to find the sweet spot for my SHOWS YOU SHOULD BE WATCHING series — check out my reviews of Dirty Lines, New Heights and Taxi Driver. And then it hit me: Treason. Now hear me out; when I read the synopsis, I thought it was pretty much more of the same, so I was a bit skeptical. British shows about either politicians or spies tend to get a bit same-y after a while, Anatomy of a Scandal being particularly bad. But Treason is different.
What’s it all about?
Written by Matt Charman (Oscar-nominated for ‘Bridge of Spies’), Treason follows Adam Lawrence (Charlie Cox), the Deputy Chief of MI6, who gets temporarily elevated to Chief following the poisoning of Martin Angelis (Ciaran Hinds), who is still recovering. But here’s the thing: somebody did this to help Lawrence’s career. Soon enough, his career, his family and his safety are on the line. Who’s who, who’s lying and what do they want?
