The Cut-Off Date To Start Playing Christmas Songs?

Ah Christmas songs… Love them or hate them, they have a way of worming their way into our hearts, despite our best efforts. It’s a sort of love-hate relationship, in a way. They are either too overplayed around November and December, too sentimental and cheesy, or just some of the most wonderful songs ever written.

We all have a favourite and a least favourite — Band Aid’s ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas’ and Boney M’s ‘Mary’s Boy Child’, respectively, for me — and we all know the words to most of them. Whether we like to admit it or not, there’s something special about them. Their comforting nature and the memories attached to them are part of most people’s lives. They lift our spirits, they warm our hearts and they just make the whole Christmas experience better. Whether that’s Chris Rea driving home for Christmas, Paul McCartney singing with a frog chorus, or Jona Lewie stopping the cavalry, there is something for everyone.

But… when exactly should you start playing Christmas songs? (‘Never!’, some of you are crying out). Hear me out: 1st November.

That’s right, 1st November…

Too early? Well…

Getting in the spirit
