Same, Moira, same. I love award season. Over at my blog, I’ve started the AND THE OSCAR DOESN’T GO TO series, where I’ll be talking about the many legends that never won an Oscar, in any category. And so I’ve decided to take it a step further here on Medium and talk about the performances that were not even nominated for an Oscar. Number 7 will shoc- kidding, this ain’t Buzzfeed. But yes, these performances were shockingly ignored by the Academy. In no particular order:

  • Ray Liotta in GoodFellas (1990) — The late, great Ray Liotta was not nominated for GoodFellas, and, as much as we all love Joe Pesci’s Oscar-winning scene-stealing performance, Ray Liotta is the heart and soul of GoodFellas. He captures Henry Hill’s internal conflict perfectly and we navigate this world through and with him.
  • Rita Hayworth in Gilda (1946) — One of the ultimate noir femmes fatale, Rita Hayworth’s Gilda went un-nominated, as was usually the case with film noir. Her vulnerability shines through that outrageous sexiness and she balances it all out in a way that few people can.
  • Pam Grier in Jackie Brown (1997) — Jackie Brown is one of Quentin Tarantino’s most widely beloved movies and the one that…
